Beyond the horizon of the setting sun
I shall wander in search of the fleeting light
When midnight has come and I am undone
I may rest from the burden of my unseen plight
The den of all sorrow I have made my lair
A dark inner cave where I locked my emotion
But the beast has awakened, alert and aware
A black flame which burns with hate and devotion

I walk not knowing where my steps will lead
Nooks and crannies hide peering eyes
Trees old and bent seem to take heed
Portending despair in their baleful guise

Roaming in the dark,
I still bear the mark branded to the bone

The standing stones witness my aimless tour
My hands hold an impotent flickering fire
I descend down the path of the silent moor
Where tarnished reflections dwell in the mire

Long dead throats whisper to me
Down from the bog their blind eyes can see
The winding tendrils grasping the trunk
Are sinews that rise from where they have sunk

Broken the balance 'twixt poise and unrest
The whisperings bring no aid
Silent the answers that I request
The spectral dead sink and fade
